Ant-Man and The Wasp co-writer - and the man once charged with directing both Ant-Man and Garth Ennis' The Boys) - Adam McKay is heading back into the superhero movie waters for an adaptation of Mark Waid and Peter Krouse's Irredeemable.

After what he helped create with Ant-Man, he's a strong choice, though it's less exciting to see Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters' writer Tommy Wirkola also involved in writing the adaptation. Still, let's hope he was writing to a very specific - very bad - brief back when he did that.

According to Deadline, McKay will helm the story of a Superman clone (in all but name) - called The Plutonian - who suddenly flips out and becomes the world's biggest supervillain, flooding continents and killing millions. It's basically General Thaddeus Ross and everyone involved in the governments of the DC movie universe's worst nightmares manifested.

His former allies - The Paradigm - unite to try and stop him (as well as trying to not be killed), along with some villains, to stop the horrific question of what happens when a God turns on his own people from being answered. Not exactly the kind of comedic fare you might expect the Anchorman director to tackle typically, but there you go.

Given the current comic book movie fascination with just that question, this is perfect timing: if anything it's a little slow off the launchpad, but it will be a strong companion piece to both the MCU post Civil War and the DC Cinematic Universe in the wake of Batman v Superman.
