After Skyfall: 10 Future Predictions For The James Bond Franchise

5. Moneypenny

Regardless of what may be thought, un-thought or cunningly misdirected about Naomie Harris€™ character €œbecoming€ Moneypenny in Skyfall, the svelte secretary€™s return to Bond is inevitable. Q makes a return in the form of a young, geek-chic Ben Whishaw and his character€™s main plot position is that of providing Bond with gadgets to make us deluded males ooh and ah at. Moneypenny€™s narrative role far outweighs that of the Gadgetmaster in as much as she has the potential to show Bond as a more rounded character. In the past she has been the source of flirtatious innuendo in the films but in the books her secretarial role, shared with Bond€™s personal secretary €˜Loelia Ponsonby€™, was so much more. A bubbling undercurrent of raw sexual magnetism never consummated, their relationship highlights an aspect of Bond that isn€™t shown elsewhere: his (innately human) need for affection, for someone to worry, for more than somebody he can get information out of by strangling with a bikini top. She€™s coming back and she€™ll be feistier than ever.
