Aja escapes, but David Fincher falls down the BLACK HOLE
David Fincher is keeping his options open. The uber talented director has no less than three projects already on his upcoming slate (see TORSO - RENDEZVOUS WITHRAMA - THE KILLER) and according to Variety, he's just added a fourth. The movie is titled BLACK HOLE, and it's an adaptation of a 12 issue comic mini-series written by Charles Burn which gets kick started when a sexually transmitted "bug" passes from teenager to teenager which causes them to develop bizarre physical mutations, turning them into social outcasts. Sounds like an 80's style Cronenberg picture about Aids doesn't it?

Paramount Pictures and MTV Films tapped duo Roger Avary (SILENT HILL) and Neil Gaiman (STARDUST) to adapt a screenplay from the graphic novel back in March 2006, at a time when horror director Alexandre Aja was on board to direct. No word if this will be Fincher's next picture but one thing I can say for sure is that if he does make it next, it will be a whole lot different from what Aja's cut would have looked like. Fincher, in the top 3 or 4 directors working today has has never done a full-out horror movie since ALIEN 3 but he still manages to creep me out with everything he gets his hands on - I would love to see him fully let rip here. Make something gruesome, gory and socially damning... a movie that makes sure that every teenager who watches it will practice safe sex from now to eternity. Yeah I'll agree his other three movies on his potential slate sound more interesting and challenging for Fincher but hell, after the double whammy that is ZODIAC and his upcoming dark drama THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON - maybe a gross out horror flick is just what the doctor ordered?
