Seriously, do NOT get attached to anyone.

So, Alien: Covenant looks brilliant.

With the film headed to cinemas in May (now a week ahead of schedule, actually), Fox have just released the new trailer for Ridley Scott's second Alien prequel, packing in a deliciously dark escalation, lots of hints of death (inevitably) and a brand new updated xenomorph for everyone to lose their minds over.

That built is the best thing about the excellent teaser: it starts like a ecology-warrior fantasy sci-fi, and by the end the action is relentless, and it's abundantly clear that pretty much nobody is getting out alive. Except maybe Danny McBride, in the least likely scenario ever.

Rather than the grim futuristic worlds that have populated the other Alien movies, traditionally, Covenant introduces a lush new world -seemingly already populated by humans, or at least their Architects at some point - whose peace belies a terrible secret. The xenomorphs are the alpha predators here, and they've been so devastatingly effective that there's nothing else alive on the planet.

So that means we get to see the horror play out against a beautiful backdrop, fitting the film's original Paradise Lost title rather succinctly.

Hopefully, the film will provide more answers than Prometheus ever managed.
