9. The Dialogue Is Clunky & Exposition-Heavy
The most pervasive issue with this movie is the screenplay, which was co-written by Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island, Terminator Genisys).
Though Cameron's strength has always been with ideas and execution over witty wordplay, his work on this movie feels especially rough, with large swaths of the script consisting of lazy exposition robotically recited by the film's cast.
Elsewhere there's an over-abundance of embarrassingly simplistic dialogues which appear to have been cherry-picked for the most basic, broad appeal to international audiences.
While it's somewhat understandable that a $200 million tentpole movie might make some concessions to the mainstream, so much of the dialogue in this film is either woefully contrived or embarrassingly bone-headed.
