All Hail The Crimson King! Matthew McConaughey Shares New The Dark Tower Teaser
Shake the hand that shook the world...
The marketing campaign for The Dark Tower is in full flow, with a special EW feature dedicated to it and offering first looks at Mid-World and some of the iconic characters, including a chilling look at Matthew McConaughey's mysterious Man In Black.
Now, the actor has taken to Twitter to reveal a new teaser image for the forthcoming film, teasing the presence of The Crimson King, who will presumably be playing an important part in the film.
In the source The Crimson King wants to end all of existence in order to rule over the darkness unleashed by the destruction of the Dark Tower. He will follow a similar thread in the film, for which he is described as "an insane, god-like entity who will be resurrected to rule the chaos of these collapsed worlds. He'll get his wish in the Man In Black succeeds in using Jake Chambers to break the beams of reality.
EW confirmed that the film is going to draw on all 8 Dark Tower novels at least to some degree, with The Gunslinger forming "the backbone" and The Drawing Of The Three probably "saved for another film" (oh yeah, they have plans for future films, of course).
There's also news that 1991’s The Waste Lands will lend something pretty major:
"The movie features one of this book’s most memorable set-pieces – Dutch Hill, a decrepit Brooklyn mansion that literally comes alive to protect a portal to Mid-World. Both film and novel also include a lot of Jake’s life in New York, with Vikings actress Katheryn Winnick playing the boy’s mother, who fears the visions her son is having about a gunslinger, a Man in Black, and an ethereal Tower are signs of a psychological breakdown."
The fourth book, Wizard and Glass, is also "being saved for a possible TV series,” and so too will most of The Dark Tower, although its ending will be “featured prominently” in the beginning of the movie. It sounds like those long gestating plans to get King's work from the page to the screen are actually taking shape now, even beyond the reaches of The Dark Tower.
The Dark Tower is set for release on February 17th 2017.
