Before Game of Thrones' Alan Taylor signed on to direct Thor: The Dark World, director Patty Jenkins - now best known for helming Wonder Woman - won the gig.

However, due to the ever-bothersome "creative differences", Jenkins eventually dropped out of the project, much to the chagrin of star Natalie Portman, who lobbied hard for Jenkins' involvement and was basically soured on the MCU as a result.

Jenkins' version of the movie was reportedly set to be a superhero spin on Romeo and Juliet, with Jane and Thor separated between Earth and Asgard, and Thor being prohibited from rescuing her. Ultimately Marvel wanted to go in a more formulaic direction, and that's that.

Would It Have Worked?: Well, it probably wouldn't have been any worse than the movie we got, that's for sure.

Jenkins has proven her solid directorial chops with Wonder Woman, and considering how Malekith was a terrible villain and Jane Foster was basically a damsel-in-distress in the end result, it's hard to imagine Jenkins turning in such a workmanlike effort.
