15. Best Original Screenplay

WINNER: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

There were many terrific original scripts last year, but none as brilliantly, ferociously hilarious and surprisingly affecting as Martin McDonagh's for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

The Academy snubbed two of the year's best screenplays, though: how The Florida Project and Phantom Thread didn't make the cut is beyond mystifying.

Our final fifth slot was filled by the brilliant Chilean drama A Fantastic Woman, which offered up a tremendously compassionate look at the daily struggles of the trans community, but was predictably ignored in this category.
