WINNER: Star Trek Beyond

Star Trek Beyond's make-up is a big reason the movie is so much fun and two of its most distinct characters are as effective as they are.

First and foremost, there's Sofia Boutella's Jaylah, who is lent so much more character by her fantastically otherworldly alien facepaint, and of course, Idris Elba's villainous Krall, who basically looks like a total bada** and is completely unrecognisable from Elba.

It wasn't exactly a banner year for makeup at the movies, but Star Trek's evocative work deserves to be recognised.
