With the tagline 'His Greatest Battle Begins' and the look of those trailers, we know that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is going to be epic. Through a lot of clever marketing and soundbites, we also know that it doesn't end there. We have a confirmed Amazing Spider-Man 3 still to come as well as at least two sequels in the pipeline. The story of Peter Parker is only just beginning. That epic scope is something we didn't really see with Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. While there were ongoing arcs (Harry Osborn's descent into madness, Peter and Mary Jane's burgeoning romance) each film also acted, for the most part, in isolation; there were always new villains with new storylines but it was never clear if there would be a sequel to each film or what the plot might be. It all just fitted together as the saga went along. With Webb's Spider-Man (and beyond his final turn behind the camera in The Amazing Spider-Man 3), you get the sense that the overall themes have been plotted out already and there is an end goal in place, be it the rise of the Sinister Six, his arch nemesis Norman Osborn or something else entirely. It will be exciting to watch and even more fun to ponder on as we move into the long wait between The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 in 2016.
