Significant business news has just broke over at Tech Crunch who are reporting that Amazon are continuing their online retailing dominance by acquiring full control of LoveFilm, the U.K.'s dominant online Blu-ray and DVD rental outlet. In truth, this deal had been on the cards for a while. Three years ago, LoveFilm acquired Amazon's DVD Rental business leaving Amazon with a 42% majority share in the company and now the online retailer has acquired the remaining shares for around $132 million. The deal should be approved in the first quarter of this year. All the tech info you can read, HERE. But what does this mean for us, the consumer? Well, I imagine Amazon will keep the LoveFilm name as the brand is so well known and has been marketed to death in the past year with online and offline (regular t.v. ads) presence. Hopefully Amazon will also continue LoveFilm's expansion to stream movings into our homes via not just our PC's but also our Video Game Consoles and Blu-ray players which is clearly, inevitably, the future of the business. What do you make of this news breaking today? A good or bad thing for the future of DVD rentals? Or is it a sinking ship anyway... just like the high-street outlets? Are you a LoveFilm customer?
