A lot of the incredulity over Ant-Man comes from not understanding Scott Lang's place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a world that has a thunder god, a resurrected WWII hero and a guy in an indestructible robot suit, who cares about some criminal who can make himself shrink and gets sent to conduct industrial espionage? Factor in the opinion that Marvel's doing something different and it works as a stand-alone, and Ant-Man doesn't seem so essential to the MCU so why bother watching it? It seems like a self-contained thing, especially since Michael Douglas's Hank Pym had his comic book creation Ultron credited to Tony Stark in the movies. Ant-Man is hugely entertaining, and a truly significant puzzle piece in the Marvel Universe, reckons Drew McSweeny from HitFix. This one's got a big sweet heart. As big a deal has been made about this being the Marvel movie people who know nothing about Marvel movies can enjoy, it's apparently as essential going forward as the Age Of Ultron.
