Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania Review - 5 Ups & 5 Downs
1. It Gets Phase 5 Off To An Underwhelming Start
A lot was riding on Quantumania to shake the cobwebs loose from the MCU's not-terribly-interesting Phase 4 and get audiences excited for the next few years of MCU films set to be defined by Kang.
Yet ultimately this is a rather flat, deflating setup for future attractions, and despite a very game performance from Jonathan Majors, Kang is going to struggle to step outside of the wide shadow cast by Thanos (Josh Brolin).
It doesn't help that Kang is a tricky character to adapt and the events of Quantumania are only likely to leave many casual viewers confused about precisely where it's all going.
Without spoiling it, the film's mid-credits scene, while offering undeniable fan service to long-time comic fans, will have mainstream audience members scratching their heads.
While it'd be dramatic to say that Phase 5 is already doomed, many hoped that Quantumania would get it off to a roaring start, and it categorically hasn't done that.
It's not a great or even particularly good movie, then, but it's also not without its sure merits...
