Audrey Hepburn's 10 Best Movies On 20th Anniversary Of Her Death

By Chris Haigh /

Audrey Hepburn is, quite simply, a legend; easily one of the best actresses of all time and revered for being an enduring cultural icon, a tireless humanitarian and a pretty awesome human being all rolled into one tiny package. I think it's fair to say - and fairly obvious to work out - that I'm a bit of a fan of Ms. Hepburn. The point is however, that a lot of people, particularly the new generations, have no idea who she is or any of the older actors are and that's quite sad really - the idea of such wondrous classics, fantastic actors and beautiful performances being lost and forgotten is upsetting. There's something important, therefore, in keeping the old legends alive - Cary Grant, Alfred Hitchcock, Grace Kelly, Katherine Hepburn, Sidney Poitier; all of these famous faces should always be remembered. On the 20th anniversary of her death today, we thought we should celebrate this iconic woman. Here's her 10 best movies;

10. How To Steal A Million (1966)

One of the funniest and most irreverently charming comedies ever to grace the screen, How To Steal A Million is a gorgeously shot, well-performed little film which follows Hepburn's attempts to keep her art forger father (a scenery-chewing Hugh Griffith) on the straight and narrow, leading to keeping an American suitor and a British investigator at bay while planning a high-end robbery to save her father from arrest. It's clear from the first scene that everyone here is having a vicarious blast - the dialogue is sparky and witty, played with a brilliant undertone of bubbling sensuality ever present in the 1960s. Hepburn is joined here ably by Peter O'Toole, a soft-spoken, smooth-as-caramel legend whose place as Hepburn's sparky romantic ideal gives the premise a lot to work with and makes it a cosy treat for a rainy weekend afternoon.
