Rest in peace, Cap.

Avengers: Infinity War was a movie that promised devastation, consequences and finality, and it absolutely delivered on each of those fronts.

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is often quite happy-go-lucky, and the endings to its movies usually leave viewers with a feeling of hope, Infinity War has rattled the Avengers and shaken the MCU to its core.

As sequel setups go they don't get much better than this, and next year's Avengers 4 now has a hell of a lot to accomplish. Not only does it have to rectify that small problem of half the universe disappearing in a cloud of dust, it has to give some of its characters a fitting end, while setting up others to continue on in future sequels.

It's a tall order, but it's one that Marvel has proven they're capable of handling.

So what will happen to our heroes in Avengers 4, and where will they be when the movie ends? For this list, we're assuming that Thanos' finger snap is reversed at some point - otherwise, there won't be many characters to talk about. Oh, and almost everyone who died pre-snap is properly dead. Let's go!

23. Bucky Barnes

Current Status: Dusted

His Avengers 4 Fate: Does Bucky really have anywhere else to go? Besides the obvious - him taking on the mantle of Captain America - it doesn't seem like the character has much more story left in him. He's been cured of his Hydra programming and is now fighting the good fight, meaning that he's come full circle from his WW2 days. That seems like a nice place to leave him be.

However, he won't die in Avengers 4. Marvel will want to keep him around in case they do decide to make him the new Captain America further down the line (that isn't a subplot you just cram into Avengers 4, so it won't happen here).

But since this could be Chris Evans' last appearance as Cap (more on him later), Bucky will get one last battle scene with his best friend. Then, he'll survive the movie and remain in Wakanda (given that his new "White Wolf" moniker is closely tied to the nation), so Marvel can revisit him whenever they need to - Black Panther 2, anyone?
