Whichever way you try and cut it, things don't look good for Tony Stark.

Iron Man has been the face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a decade now; he's been its architect, its most important character, and the leader of the Avengers. Without him there would be no MCU, and it's almost impossible to picture the universe without him, but it's a reality we could soon be facing.

Avengers 4 is going to mark the end of the MCU as we know it, and that should mean at least a couple of the original heroes are on the way out. With new heroes like Captain Marvel set to come in and lead the MCU, it's time for some of the old guard to make way, and as things stand Stark seems the most likely. Admittedly we've been here before - quite recently, in fact, with Infinity War - but there should be a greater sense of conclusion this time around.

It's not just that Robert Downey Jr's contract is up - he's tended to renew on a movie-by-movie basis for a while anyway - but that, for the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist, death at this point really is the most fitting way to go out.
