10. Nick Fury

Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury has been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since day one, and the last time he was seen was alongside the Skrulls in outer space. That sets the stage for the former S.H.I.E.L.D. Director to appear in Captain Marvel 2 before finally making his long overdue return in the next Avengers movie (he was mostly absent from both Infinity War and Endgame).

Jackson is now 71, and while he looks a good twenty years younger than that, the bigger issue here is that there aren't really that many more places for Fury's story to go at this point. That probably explains why he's taken a back seat role in proceedings these past few years, and a heroic sacrifice of some sort feels like the right move now.

Fury was the one who brought Earth's Mightiest Heroes together in the first place, so it would be appropriate for him to be the one who enacts one final plan to ensure that the team will always be there to protect the universe...even if it's at the cost of his own life.
