Avengers: Could The Soul Stone Appear First In Captain Marvel

Could a new comic offer a big Infinity War hint?

The closer we get to Avengers: Infinity War's release, the more we're going to hear about the great mystery of the Soul Stone. Probably not from Marvel though, as they're more likely to focus on the key element of Thanos' backstory and his plans for universal conquest. If anything, the studio want to keep the conversation going without ever referencing it.ÚBut there's no getting around the importance of that mystery, or how compelling the quest to find it is - both on-screen and among the fans - and speculation will continue to be white-hot until whenever it is we see the Soul Stone on screen.

And according to one theory, that might not be when most people are expecting it. Because there's a new school of thought suggesting that the Soul Stone won't even debut until Captain Marvel comes to screens in her own 2019 stand-alone movie.

As pointed out by CBR, the new direction in Marvel Comics might hint at where the Stone is in the MCU. In the comics, the Infinity Gems were destroyed and are now turning back up as the newly-named Infinity Stones, presumably for a closer tie to the movies. The comic book Carol Danvers actually has the Reality Stone and the Super Skrull (who could appear in Marvel's film) has the Time Stone, but CBR suggest that there's no reason why the MCU version of Captain Marvel could steal the story approach and have her appear with the Soul Stone.

It might be a little left-field but it would explain why Danvers has been off the grid since the 90s in the MCU (and indeed why Nick Fury has sat on his knowledge of her) and it would also account for why the film comes out between the two Avengers tentpole events.

What do you think?
