Avengers: Infinity War - 10 Ways Thanos Could Be Defeated

2. Captain America Sacrifices Himself

Infinity War and its sequel will mark the end of Chris Evan's Marvel contract and, with him unwilling to renew it, it looks like those films could be the last outings of Captain America as well.

What better send-off could there be then, than to have the Star Spangled Avenger go out in a huge sacrifice to defeat Thanos?

It would also be a fitting tribute to one of the greatest moments in the Infinity Gauntlet comic, Captain America standing alone in a hopeless battle against Thanos. He lost his life, but he refused to ever stop opposing the tyrant. It wasn't a sacrifice that achieved anything, but it did show that real heroes never back down from evil.

Cap may have come back to life in the comics, but he won't be so luckily in Infinity War. Ideally, he'll end up in a final battle against Thanos as the only hero still standing thanks to his immense willpower.

Against all odds, Steve will win and save the universe. However, he'll be mortally wounded in the process and will eventually succumb to his injuries, presumably surviving just long enough into the sequel to fulfil his contractual obligation and also pass on his shield to Bucky or Falcon.
