Avengers: Infinity War - Thor And Star-Lord Confirmed By The Russos
More comedy and more capes confirmed.
According to the men behind the camera, both Thor and Star-Lord might be added to the fray for their upcoming Avengers movie. It's by no means an absolute confirmation, but it follows the logic that both characters would be part of the eye-wateringly massive roster of characters set to face off against Thanos in the Phase 3 ender.
The Russos all out confirmed that Thor would return to the Avengers team after swanning off to deal with his own planet's issues in Thor Ragnarok. They also clearly know what happens in that threequel, given the way they talk about working with the character:
"I'm excited to work with Thor," Joe Russo says. "They're doing some really interesting stuff with Ragnarok and where he's gonna be at the beginning of Infinity War is gonna be a very interesting place and I think very profound. I think he's gonna have a real emotional motivation after that."
Could that "very interesting place" be, like, dead? That's pretty emotional. If it does indeed turn out that Cate Blanchett is playing Hela (the Asgardian Goddess of Death) and Thanos' affections are levelled at her instead of Death as it is in the comics, Thor personally knowing her would add a personal spin to things.
And in further conversation with ComicBook.com, the Civil War directors playfully hinted that the Guardians Of The Galaxy lead might be joining the sprawling ensemble for Infinity War, or at least openly said that they love Star-Lord:
The movies are intended to be a culmination of everything that's happened before in the MCU so you don't want to get into spoilers but I'm a big fan of what James Gunn has done. Joe and I are both big fans of what James Gunn has done. Star-Lord is a fantastic character and Chris Pratt is an awesome performer so you'd be very excited."
Obviously the intergalactic scope of the film means ignoring the Guardians - particularly when they have experience with Thanos and his family - would be an fairly gross oversight, unless they've all been wiped out by that point. So we can probably expect the snark and quips level to rise considerably with Star-Lord, Tony Stark, Rocket and Ant-Man all in the same film.
Meanwhile, that also hopefully means we'll get the rest of the Guardians in Infinity War, making a Hulk/Groot team-up in battle a very real, very exciting possibility.
