Avengers: Infinity War Writers Discuss Near Impossibility Of Including The Defenders

Don't expect these super teams to meet.

With Captain America: Civil War now released, everything is building to Avengers: Infinity War (or whatever names they end up with for the two movies).

Expected to act as a climax to not just Phase 3, but so much of the MCU as we currently know it, it's going to be the biggest film(s) Marvel have put out to date, and feature a huge amount of characters from across the universe.

Given the huge threat and number of characters set to be included, there is a lot of talk about whether the heroes from the Netflix series, the likes of Daredevil and Jessica Jones, could appear on the big screen. They're currently building to their own team-up event, The Defenders, which is expected to start shooting later this year. Now Infinity War writers have spoken to IGN (via SlashFilm) about their potential inclusion in the film, with Stephen McFeely saying that they are "open" to the idea. However, his co-writer Christopher Markus went on to talk about the difficulty of bringing them in:

"A lot of it is a pace thing in that we have to have this thing done so much ahead of time, that they might get all the way through that Defenders show before we start shooting, certainly before anything comes out. So we don€™t know where they€™re going to be. It€™s very hard logistically to keep even the movie characters synced up. It€™s nearly impossible given the speed that TV cranks out the changes."

It's not a definitive no, but it does seem unlikely that they'll be able to work them into the film, bar maybe a quick cameo. By the time Infinity War is released we'll have had at least one season of each hero, plus The Defenders, while they're writing the movie now, so it's difficult for them to match-up with where those characters will be at.

It shouldn't really be all that surprising if they aren't there, though, given Marvel have very much split their movies and TV products into two distinct sides. Given the success the Netflix series are enjoying, maybe that's not such a bad thing, even if it would be nice to see some of those characters on the big screen.
