1. The First Act's Unclear Direction
When the film opens, the initial set-up of the important characters and the overall culture set in stone at the Roslyn school district is well-done, but it's unclear where exactly the movie's going at first. The movie's making a point of establishing Frank Tassone as a well-respected, beloved figure in the community, but it's not obvious what it's leading to (unless you know the true story).
As a viewer, you're still entertained because again, the pacing and personality of the film are more than prevalent enough to keep you interested, but it's not until the start of the second act when things begin picking up and that story direction is recognizable. Once that sense of direction is clear, that's when the movie starts firing on all cylinders.
