Batman 2018 Movie: 6 Influential Storylines We Want To See

3. The Black Mirror

Including Scott Snyder€™s The Black Mirror on this list could be seen as a tad blasphemous, seeing as how it doesn€™t feature Bruce Wayne at all, but rather sees Dick Grayson under the cowl. At The Black Mirror€™s beginning, the original Robin has assumed the mantle of Batman in Bruce€™s absence and Commissioner Gordon€™s psychotic son, James Jr, embarks on a murderous rampage.

What follows is a twisted study on the value of empathy verses unapologetic self-service. It€™s a long story, and it includes a whole host of the regular supporting bat-cast, but the heart of James Jr.€™s plan is to destroy Dick€™s sense of empathy, a cause of extreme weakness and the reason that Jim Jr. is glad to be a psychopath. The way James Jr. manipulates those around him to do it is where the crux of the story lies. In the end it€™s Commissioner Gordon who really has to face the consequences and connotations of his son€™s actions, and even if Dick was swapped out for Bruce it would still be interesting to see a story where the emotional burden lies somewhere other than on Batman€™s shoulders.

There€™s also a plot to poison baby food in an effort to create a generation of superior psychopaths, which would certainly be a dark direction to embark on. Various mental health charities might have something to say about that particular plot though.
