4. The Unique Style & Setting

Though the animation quality itself is distinctly lacking, the film does at least deserve praise for its unique setting and art style, hurling the Caped Crusader into a Victorian-era Gotham that has an undeniably novel quality to it.

From the presence of horse carts and zeppelins to the period costumes and rustic architecture, it feels a million miles away from most contemporary Batman iterations, and the inclusion of Jack the Ripper helps enhance the pulpy, detective noir mood that many of the better Batman stories are known for.

It's a shame more isn't done with this style and tone, but it does at least help differentiate the film from some of the more samey and over-familiar Batman animations out there.
