Like Point Break and countless others, the 2014 remake of Robocop was absolutely unnecessary, was inevitably mauled and barely made its budget when marketing and the other "invisible" costs are taken into account.

As With Batman v Superman, there's a very real sense that the director in charge doesn't really know what made the subject initially so appealing. Thus the magic was sucked out into a vacuum.

Why It Did Better

Despite missing the point, Robocop was well written, which Batman v Superman absolutely wasn't. Both attempted deep philosophical musings (and the occasionally satirical nod), but only one had the intellect to really make it work. And incredibly, it was the one about a resurrected robot cop.
