Ben Affleck's Batman is noticeably more grizzled and worldly wise than any iteration of the character we've seen at the cinema before, with Snyder and co promising us a hero who was nearing the end of his career (until the solo movies start coming at least), but will he have already retired by the start of Dawn Of Justice? We see Batman taking on thugs and appearing in the local rag but there's nothing to say that what we've seen isn't a flashback during the main events of BvS. To lend credence to the idea that Bruce may have hung up his cape and turned off the lights in the batcave for a while, we see shots of Bruce starring wistfully at his batsuit and glimpses of the possible Robin suit that the Joker has desecrated. It's not out of the realms of possibility that Bruce's visions of Superman's destructive power are what jolt him out of his funk and back onto the streets.
