Diane Lane proved to be a good pick for the role of Martha Kent in Man of Steel, and she reprises her role in a relatively small capacity in Batman v Superman. Mostly she spends the sum of the filming staring at television sets, watching news stories about her son from afar. But later on she's captured by Lex Luthor's goons and Batman has to rescue her in the film's one great action sequence. Lane is a wonderful actress, and so she makes even those watching TV moments watchable, but during her capture she actually gets to cry and generally look shaken to sh*t, which means that she - at least - gets the chance to act in two different ways in a motion picture where everybody else is only granted a single dimension.
