We've come a long way since Independence Day by the looks of the first trailer for Battle: Los Angeles (March, Sony) which brings a real-time, Black Hawk Down-military style war premise to the usual alien invasion setup. The result - accompanied by a truly haunting piece of music is a stunning visual and stirring experience - a trailer sold by it's money shot after money shot after money shot. And I ate it all up... Aaron Eckhart and Michelle Rodriguez are in this thing as members of a platoon of soldiers on the front line against the E.T. threat in LA. but Sony don't care about their stars - it's all about the visual effects work which is ironically supplied by The Brothers Strause, those effects expert who pretty much ripped off the idea and quickly made and released Skyline in theatres today. Which by the way if you are wondering why we don't have a review up - it's because we weren't invited to the dance (one P.R. woman said they were getting their print very late and would struggle to hold a press screening). The film comes from Jonathan Liebesman (TCM: The Beginning) who I previously wrote off as a lame-duck director but if he pulls off what he promises in this trailer then his next film Wrath of the Titans (a sequel to Clash of the Titans) suddenly becomes something to get excited about. Battle Los Angeles TrailerUploaded by teasertrailer. - Check out other Film & TV videos. This is one impressive teaser trailer but the problem Sony have now left themselves with is topping this footage when when they put together an extended reel next year. This one shows just about as much as you would want from a trailer - and keeps enough mystery behind the threat. What's your thoughts on this guys? Surely this is the kind of original, epic tentpole we hope to see every year?? This opens March 11th.
