Before Midnight: 10 Reasons It's One Of The Greatest Films Ever Made

4. Rewatch Value

It is often said that we should make sure to re-watch our favourite films at different points in our lives, because though the films don't change, obviously our perspectives do, and as such a film you loved as a youngster can open up to you in an entirely different way (or you might end up hating it - who knows?). I already find this with the Before films; Before Sunrise I first watched as a romantically inexperienced teenager, and then watched it again recently in my mid-20s, and found that the film felt even more dense and detailed because it seemed so much more honest and relatable. I fully expect Midnight to be the same; when I return to it in 10 or 15 years, perhaps married with a family, I am likely to have a very different engagement with it than I do now. This is one of the many wonderful things about storytelling in general, and in this case, it damn-near requires audiences to come back for another go in the future, if only for their own sanity.
