20 Greatest Horror Movie Endings of the 2020s (So Far)
19. Bodies Bodies Bodies
Bodies Bodies Bodies gets a lot of points for thoroughly subverting audience expectations in gut-bustingly funny fashion.
The film is a murder-mystery in which a group of friends are turned violently against one another after one of them, David (Pete Davidson), is discovered with his throat slashed by a short sword.
At the end of the movie, the two surviving characters, Bee (Maria Bakalova) and Sophie (Amandla Stenberg), watch a video on David's phone which reveals that he accidentally slit his own throat while using the sword to open a champagne bottle.
So, there was no killer, and all the deaths since have been for absolutely nothing - a reality which sets in for Bee and Sophie just as Max (Conner O'Malley), a fellow partier who left the night before, returns to the mansion.
What a hilarious rug-pull on which to end the film and underline the movie's general depiction of its characters as obnoxiously vapid and self-absorbed.
