20 Awesome Horror Movies NOBODY Talks About

2. Revenge

The feature debut from The Substance filmmaker Coralie Fargeat, Revenge is one of the all-time greatest entries into the rape-revenge subgenre, entirely flipping it on its head by eschewing even the faintest shred of titillation in favour of righteous violent vengeance.

Fargeat's film quite brilliantly inverts the expected male gaze, giving incredible lead Matilda Lutz the floor to embark on a roaring rampage of revenge against her vile male aggressors.

It's also beautifully shot, packed with intense gore, and features one of the most satisfying climaxes of basically any horror movie from the past decade. And that's without even getting into that unforgettable peyote sequence.

Yet even with Fergeat becoming a genuine household name with the Oscar-winning success of The Substance, it's surprising how few have taken the opportunity to check out her fierce debut, which deserves to be hailed as a modern feminist horror classic in its own right.
