20 Awesome Horror Movies NOBODY Talks About
18. Overlord
From the speed with which it evaporated from the collective cultural consciousness, you'd assume that Overlord was absolutely terrible rather than one of the most badass action-horror films of the 2010s.
One of the few Nazi zombie films out there to have an actual Hollywood budget behind it, Overlord is a blisteringly nasty film about a group of American soldiers who find themselves facing off against grotesque Nazi experiments on the eve of D-Day.
And boy, the movie sure delivers all the unpretentious thrills you'd hope for from such a bonkers premise, yet it's also exceptionally well-made, filmmaker Julius Avery wringing every damn drop out of his tight $38 million budget.
It's action-packed, bloody as hell, and the sound design is killer, not to ignore the efforts of the strong ensemble cast including Jovan Adepo, Wyatt Russell, John Magaro, Pilou Asbæk, and Bokeem Woodbine.
But Overlord was a box office flop, perhaps in part because of all the pre-release chatter suggesting it was a secret Cloverfield movie - which it wasn't.
Yet as we edge closer to a decade since the film's release, it seems desperately overdue a redemption arc on streaming.
