20 Awesome Horror Movies NOBODY Talks About

13. Bliss

Bliss is the film that well and truly put cult filmmaker Joe Begos on the map.

This utterly mesmerising odyssey follows an artist, Dezzy (Dora Madison), who takes a hallucinogenic drug in order to overcome crippling creative block and promptly descends into madness.

While those who require water-tight, crystalline narrative logic from their films might come a bit unstuck with Bliss, if you're able to surrender to its more fluid, free-wheeling vibe, this is one of cinema's best recent approximations of tripping balls on drugs.

Begos uses his low-budget, rough-hewn style to his absolute advantage, crafting a chaotic, visually aggressive and sonically sharp ride of a movie that's topped by a superbly committed performance from Dora Madison.

It remains the quintessential Begos film and a great introduction for anyone unfamiliar with his work - a face-ripping 80-minute romp where the cast and crew clearly left everything they had on the field.
