13. The Hilarious Product Placement - One Night Only
One Night Only is one of those frustratingly movies with a brilliant premise that it in no way does justice to.
A rom-com in which premarital sex is illegal save for one 12-hour period per year is rife with potential, yet it ultimately gets too bogged down in the weeds with the dystopian particulars of its setup, all while being strangely lacking in sex appeal.
But the film's big triumph is its clever use of product placement, featuring advertising from countless real-life brands that's been twisted to fit the world of the movie.
Some particularly hilarious examples include a Duolingo poster with the tagline, "Get lingual for the one night," a Red Bull poster promising to "give you wings for the entire 12 hours," and a Dunkin' Donuts commercial declaring that "America runs on Dunkin' on the night."
Director Will Gluck later confirmed that these companies weren't paid a penny for being featured - rather, the filmmakers had to convince each brand to lend their image to the fake ads.
It's just a shame that this inspired creativity didn't transpire through to the rest of this strangely flat movie.
