6. Da 5 Bloods (2020)

Spike Lee's powerful and stylish indictment of America's sins during the Vietnam War is one of the director's most confrontational productions. 

The story follows a group of Black veterans (Delroy Lindo, Clarke Peters, Isaiah Whitlock Jr, and Norm Lewis) as they venture back to Vietnam in hopes of finding a treasure they buried there with their late leader (Chadwick Boseman). 

Da 5 Bloods plays with time and tone to tell the tale of men forgotten by the country they served and forced to confront the horrors of what they did all those years ago, whilst also serving as a heist thriller and a stunning exercise in filmmaking that powerfully blurs fiction and reality. 

Lee wants audiences to question what they know about the war, as each man confronts the dark parts of their mind in search of closure against the trauma they've suffered. It's colourful, it's melancholy, it's occasionally amusing, and it's vintage Lee: uncompromising, in-your-face, and unforgettably unique.
