Birds Of Prey: 10 Major New Details Revealed During The Press Tour

3. Why Birds Of Prey Came Before Gotham City Sirens

The original plan at Warner Bros. (not that the studio ever really had a slate in place) was for Suicide Squad to be followed by Gotham City Sirens. David Ayer would have returned to direct the Harley Quinn/Poison Ivy/Catwoman team-up but plans changed and Margot Robbie reportedly pushed for the studio to prioritise Birds of Prey instead with a female cast and crew receiving the spotlight.

Now, though, the actress has finally shed some light on her thought process and reveals why she felt Birds of Prey was a better movie to make than Gotham City Sirens.

"Whilst I was researching the character I started to read Birds of Prey and first I fell in love with Huntress, and I started looking into all of that. I was like, ‘Wow, there’s so many cool female DC characters and no one knows anything about any of them!’ So what if we had a platform for fans to get to know and fall in love with some of these other amazing women?" Robbie told Cinema Blend. "Focusing on the Gotham City Sirens, there were only three of us and we were all well known, whereas with Birds of Prey you can pick any grouping for that."

"I thought that might be the perfect platform to introduce some female characters who might really have some legs in the DC Universe," she concluded. It's an explanation that does make sense but surely there were ways for supporting players like Renee Montoya and Cassandra Cain to still appear in a movie like Gotham City Sirens?
