Black Adam Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

4. The Villain SUCKS

Warner Bros.

Even those who enjoyed the film will struggle to deny that Black Adam's antagonist is... not good. To be blunt, he's pretty damn terrible.

The primary villain is Ishmael Gregor (Marwan Kenzari), the leader of the crime syndicate Intergang, whose plan involves taking custody of the legendary Crown of Sabbac, which will grant the wearer immense powers.

He's an absolute dullard of an antagonist and, given his brief screen time throughout, the movie seems to know it too.

And of course, for the third act clash with Black Adam, he's transformed into a garish CGI entity which is somehow even less interesting than his prior human form.

While it's common for superhero movies to deliver underwhelming villains after devoting most of their time to the heroes, this is an especially egregious case of a comic book film clearly not giving even the faintest damn about its utterly disposable Bad Guy.
