Black Is King: 5 Things You Need To Know About Beyonce's Upcoming Film

5. A Visual Album

Disney says that the upcoming film is going to be a 'visual album'. If you have no idea what that means, we don't blame you. It's a concept we've never quite seen before, and after decades of artists blending music and video in so many different ways, it really could mean anything.

Nevertheless, that is how Beyonce's new film is being described, and there are a few details that have been announced that may clear things up a bit.

Being based on her album 'The Lion King: The Gift', the film is set to explore and express the same emotions and themes, and the trailer suggests that it might feature a series of stylistic and colourful music videos, connected by some cinematic, narrative scenes.

While that is not confirmed, and we are not entirely sure how the film will merge the conventions of cinema with that of albums and music videos, there has been some news which supports this prediction.

Disney have confirmed that the songs 'Already', 'Brown Skin Girl' and 'My Power' will have full-length videos in the film, and given the choice of the the film medium, it would make sense for there to be a few scenes thrown in to tie the different songs and messages together.

For fans of Beyonce's music, the film looks to offer a new and interesting dimension to her work, offering a unique spin on the conventions of musical storytelling.
