Black Panther 2: Kevin Feige Responds To Killmonger Rumours
MCU supremo says "Nothing is set yet..."
Despite how far away Black Panther 2 is - actually, nobody really knows how far away it is, which is sort of the point here - we've already heard rumours for some time that it might feature a shocking return from Michael B Jordan's Erik Killmonger. You know, the guy who died so well at the end of the first movie...
It's natural to think that Ryan Coogler might want Jordan to return, to be fair, because he's been something of a talisman for him (and a lucky charm, given how well all of his films have been received). But surely death should spell the end of the character?
Well, maybe but also maybe not.
Asked directly by BET about the claims that Killmonger would return, Kevin Feige didn't take the opportunity to say he wasn't coming back. Instead, he kept it up in the air:
"Pure rumor. The honest answer to that is that is pure rumor and speculation, because Mr. Coogler is just only in recent weeks sitting down at his keyboard and beginning to outline the movie. It’s early, so nothing is set yet in any way that far, because Mr. Coogler is sitting down and will share it with Nate Moore and myself in coming weeks."
This was very much an opportunity to kill the rumour before it gathered much pace, but Feige instead chose to not rule it out. Which means, somewhere along the line, it's still a possibility.
No matter what happens, the sequel will have a task on its hands to bring in a villain - and a performance - as good as Jordan's Killmonger.
