Black Panther: Every Character Ranked Worst To Best

He might look excellent as wise old sage Zuri, but Forest Whitaker's performance is once more a little too much like his weird take on Saw Gerrera in Rogue One. His accent is too over the top at times and he's uneven, never quite selling either his Obi-Wan Kenobi status or his guilt when his and T'Chaka's secret is uncovered.

Ultimately, his fate leaves a lot to be desired and it feels slightly confusing that all of the other characters seem to think he matters as much as he does. Leave him out and nothing changes - he simply occupied the space vacated by T'Chaka's murder in Captain America: Civil War and was massively undermined by T'Chaka still turning up now and then.

His younger self in 1992 is played by name-sake Denzel Whitaker (no relation), who does a good job of making him an interesting figure while he can. But given how odd the elder actor's performance is, it's hard to believe they're the same character.
