Black Panther Trailer Reactions: 7 Ups & 3 Downs
1. Unfinished CGI?
At this stage in production, there's a very good chance that Black Panther's effects work is some distance away from being completed. It will still have months of gloss to be added, and nothing we see currently will really be a fair reflection of the final product.
The decision to include some of that footage, which is very obviously not finished (at least, let's hope not) in the trailer, then, is a strangely frustrating one. All it does is open the teaser - and the film as an extrapolation - to criticism of cartoonish, rag-doll effects. The same happened with Spider-Man: Homecoming, and that final shot of T'Challa flipping a car looks similarly goofy without its final gloss.
There's no way it will look like that on the big screen, but that still begs the question of why it was even included.
And now on to the positives...
