So far, with the studio focused on Endgame, the news on Marvel's Black Widow stand-alone has been pretty limited. We know who's writing it (Jac Schaeffer) and who is directing it (Cate Shortland) and there's a big suggestion that it's a prequel (and might feature other heroes - perhaps including Bucky), but beyond that, there's little else to go on.

There was also a casting call released by The Hashtag Show, which included mention of another main female character alongside Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanoff, though, and that inspired speculation that we were going to see Jessica Drew or someone like Melina Vostokovna. The character breakdown suggests "a female Bond" type character and they'd both fit to a certain extent.

And now we also have a suggestion who might play that key role, as That Hashtag Show have now followed up with a report that Emma Watson is the front runner to be cast.

It's only a matter of time before the main Harry Potter cast are cast in superhero movies and Watson coming to the MCU would be a big coup for Marvel. They'll be able to leverage both Watson's appeal to Potter fans and also to young female audience members to really sell Black Widow even more.

Other names in contention, according to the same report says that Alice Englert (Ratched), Dar Zuzovsky (Hostages), and Florence Pugh (Fighting With My Family) are all also in consideration.
