Bond 25: Cary Joji Fukunaga To Replace Danny Boyle As Director
The movie has been moved back to 2020.
Cary Joji Fukunaga is the new director of James Bond 25, coming onboard after it was announced Danny Boyle had left the project last month.
Boyle's departure, which was put down to 'creative differences', had led to speculation the movie could be significantly delayed, but with Fukunaga coming in so swiftly the release has instead been pushed back just a few months, from November 8, 2019 to its new slot of February 14, 2020. In a statement, producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said:
“We are delighted to be working with Cary. His versatility and innovation make him an excellent choice for our next James Bond adventure.”
Fukunaga is certainly an interesting choice. His distinctive work on True Detective's first season marked him as a director to watch and he's got bags of style, but he's also garnered a reputation - albeit, perhaps, a slightly unfair one - for being difficult to work with. Nonetheless, the thought of what he could do with Bond, given a real chance, is a tantalising prospect.
Daniel Craig will be back for what's expected to be his final outing as 007, with veteran Bond writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade penning the latest version of the script.
