5. The Brilliantly Cringe-Worthy Comedy
Though some of the skits do suffer from the aforementioned reliance on stage-y contrivances, the film is still a triumph of spectacularly embarrassing shock-style comedy.
Cohen is a master at letting people open their mouths and humiliate themselves on-screen, and that's deeply felt once again here, particularly during a legendary sequence in which Borat attends a conservative festival disguised as an American country singer.
The profane lyrics he successfully encourages the audience to sing are at once disturbing and perversely hilarious, and represent one of many scenarios in the film where Cohen prods America's extremely twisted take on "freedom."
