In one of the most tightly contested big movie battles of this year, it was the Penguins who managed to come out on top in the weekend box office charts, just beating out 007 by around $2 million. Happy Feet showed the continuing notion that children's animated movies are still very big business, no matter the competition as it raked up an estimated $42 million this weekend, making it Warner Brothers' highest grossing animated debut ever (though still some way off Pixar numbers). Just slightly behind was Casino Royale with $40 million which with inflation closely matches Martin Campbell's last revivial of the Bond franchise with GoldenEye in 1995. The real test for the Bond franchise now is to see how the next movie performs two years from now, where Sony should get a better idea if a franchise restart was the best way to go. In The UK, Casino Royale made a huge impact taking in $25.6 million over the weekend, making it joint second with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest as the highest grossing weekend debut in history, trailing only Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Borat dropped 50% in it's takings but still managed to take in another $14.3 million, pushing it's gross ever closer to $100 million in the States. Animated feature Flushed Away came in at 5 with $6.8 million pushing it's gross total to $48.8 million so far. The movie has got to be considered a flop at this point as it's $100 million in the red in it's third week and will have to do serious numbers in the UK when it's released in two weeks if it's to make any kind of profit. A suprise entry into the Top 10 is the After Dark's Horror Festival, which screened 9 different low budget horror movies over the weekend, earning an impressive $2.5 million.
