When Brad Pitt signed up for the serious drama Babel a while back, a lot of people were claiming that he took on the movie in an attempt to win himself an Oscar. Well unfortunately for Brad he didn't get nominated, so what does he do? He signs on for a movie to be directed by the helmer who shot Forest Whitaker to his Oscar win in The Last King of Scotland. Variety are reporting that Kevin MacDonald will helm an Americanized version of the acclaimed British miniseries State of Play, with Brad Pitt in the lead role. The movie will follow a team of investigate reporters who secretly work alongside a police detective in order to solve the murder of a congressman's mistress. Pitt will be playing the reporter who heads the investigation and was once close to the congressman. MacDonald who says he was "hooked" to the six hour drama when on T.V, told Variety a little more about the project.... "This asks questions of how independent the press is, how much real investigating is conducted, and how much is taken on faith from lobbyists or PR sheets. The character played by Brad represents the old world journalist, the shining knight who is after the truth." Doesn't sound half bad actually. I've never heard of the British series it is based on but that's probably down to the fact that I don't really watch T.V. source - variety
