6. Fiction: Leper Robert De Brus

The award for scariest looking character in the film goes to the leper, Robert de Brus. The creepy man who never left his room provided children with nightmares across the globe. Following further research, it turns out that he didn’t suffer from leprosy at all. Apologies Robert, for the years of hatred.

There is no documentary proof of the man having leprosy. There are rumours about him and his son having it but that is not evidence.

It is believed they portrayed him as a leper in the film to paint the picture of him being a pantomime villain. Within the movie he plays a role in the capture of Wallace (didn’t happen) and he was always in cohesion with the English. Both quite villainous acts which earned him this fictional representation.
