20 Upcoming Film & TV Shows That Just Got Cancelled
2. Ballerina 2
John Wick spin-off Ballerina was released last summer and marked an attempt to expand the action franchise away from Keanu Reeves' protagonist, especially considering both the ending of John Wick: Chapter 4 and the increasingly precarious state of 61-year-old Reeves' knees.
Though the film had a majorly contentious production, with mainline John Wick filmmaker Chad Stahelski even being brought in to oversee reshoots, it wasn't quite the critical disaster many were expecting, ultimately releasing to broadly positive - if hardly glowing - reviews.
Yet even with the marketing focusing on Reeves' small supporting role in the film, Ballerina had a much tougher time at the box office, where it grossed a disappointing $137.2 million against a hefty $90 million budget.
For context, this made it the second lowest-grossing film of the series behind only the original John Wick, which with a mere $30 million budget needed to make far less money to turn a profit.
Lionsgate has generally been quick off the mark to greenlight John Wick sequels, so considering that more than six months have passed since Ballerina's release, it's fair to say that a sequel won't be happening, with the studio instead hoping that Reeves' knees might be up for John Wick 5.
