Candyman Trailer Breakdown: 5 Ups & 3 Downs

Halfway through the trailer, when the unsuspecting victim gets sucked off the floor and flies feet first to his demise, this was so much like Paranormal Activity it was sickening.

Candyman is a quintessential slasher film. Sure, there are paranormal aspects, but why use the signature hook when he can just use his new Darth Vader-like force and suck his victims in?

The paranormal elements work well when they build tension. Is The Candyman behind the victim, or is he behind the mirror? This works! But give The Candyman the ability of telekinesis and you’ve given him too much power.

Suspense works when there is an opportunity for the would-be victim to escape. This takes that opportunity away.
