Candyman Trailer Breakdown: 5 Ups & 3 Downs

Sure, Destiny’s Child are now retro and yes, the lyrics of the song fit the main premise of The Candyman films, but the fact that the chorus from a pop song from 1999 continuously echoes in the second half of the trailer is a big down. It’s just too much of a clash of the atmosphere.

The first use of the song was subtle and fit the scene well - you would expect to hear such a song at an art exhibition - but when it repeats towards the end, it ruined it.

This is one of those rare cases where a John Lewis Christmas Advert-esque remake of a well-known pop song might have worked.
